Chys 1f90: introduction to child and youth studies. This course will give students an overview of the multiple ways that children and youth can be studied. Through developmental, exceptionalities, and socio-cultural lenses, students will learn about past and present issues facing young people locally and globally, as well as various research methods used to gather information with and about young people. These perspectives primarily draw upon psychology and education, although they also touch upon anthropology. We will explore the foundations of child and youth development from conception through to young adulthood. We will often focus on the experiences of children and youth in various contexts, such as the family, school, community, and society by considering how children and youth function in. 1 those contexts and how they can be supported.
