Locus of control - julian rotter: internal: locus of control (person attributes success/failure to self, external: locus of control (person attributes success/failure to environmental factors outside of their control/luck/fate) A teacher is to facilitate learning and provide the conditions for earning to take place: external condition: outside the learner. Classroom rule, poster tips for good writing, children"s work on walls, classroom environment, extrinsic motivation: internal condition: inside the learner. Expectation of success and support, interest, intrinsic motivation, exploration freedom. The challenge for teachers is to set the external conditions that support and spark the internal conditions. Our own assumptions about learning influence how we set the conditions. According to piaget, children construct their own knowledge through experiences. The organization of this knowledge is referred to as cognitive structure . Knowledge is organized in category systems or schemata with a single category referred to as a schema.
