Theory of mind: understanding that human action is motivated by underlying mental states. Other people have their own thoughts: social development. Helps us interact with each other (do things like empathize: cognitive development. Stuck on the first rule they learn (shape vs. colour, big shoes vs. little shoes) Are in the front left of your brain touches the false belief, the back of the brain touches the photograph photograph. Dissociation in development: understanding of beliefs and photographs both develop between 3- and 4-years, but, performance is not typically correlated (e. g. , zaitchik, 1991, training on one does not affect performance on the other (slaughter, 1998) Terrible in false belief, better in false photograph. Performance on tasks has nothing to do with iq (white triangles) The higher the iq for autistic individuals, their performance is better for theory of mind tasks (black triangles)
