Suicide accounts for 24% of all deaths among individuals ages 15-24. The mortality rate due to suicide among men is four times the rate among women. Almost one half (49%) of those who feel they have suffered from depression or anxiety have never gone to see a doctor about this problem. Once depression is recognized, help can make a difference for 80% of people who are affected, allowing them to get back to their regular activities. Homesickness when leaving for school, can turn into clinical depression. Happens with animals too, cub away from mom. Moms have to gather food, causing a separation, so they retreat to their den, don"t get eaten; mom comes back with food some utility to depression along the way. Partner is depressed, makes people attend to you. Response to painful physical stimuli is moderated in the brain by serotonin. Shared neurological pathway between emotions and physical matters.
