Social interaction: look at each other & nod, not comfortable when interacting with someone who doesn"t do that, socially aware, you can tell if something is wrong with someone because you have a feeling. In the majority of cases there is intellectual impairment (iq = 70>) Children with asd will look away after one smiles at them then return with a smile late delay: lack of babbling, lack of reciprocity. Back & forth with things: dysfunctional attachment patterns, perspective taking. Reduced activity in frontal lobes, limbic system, amygdala. Have a rough day, one could put themselves in your shoes. Sally puts a marble into the basket & watches this. Anne moves the marble from the basket to the can. Normally developed children in the basket - 23/27 (85%) Children with down syndrome in the basket - 12/14 (86%) Children with autism say in the can - 4/20 (20%) Example: faux pas test - perspective taking.
