Manus: the hand; woman was in the manus of wither her father or her husband. 1 name feminine of father"s nomen (clan name) legally classified as children/slaves; no legal rights: matrona (highest status): legally married woman. A wife"s duties: household management(oeconomica): spinning and clothing the household, domestic harmony: does"nt disagrees with her husband, demonstrate pietas: chastity, obedience, protect husband"s interests, childbirth. Voluntary and involuntary childlessness: fertility: main reason.
