Great pyramids at giza: how did they come to be: royal cemeteries at abydos. Used in 1st and 2nd dynasty period upper egypt. Excavated: flinders petrie father of egyptology 1880"s 1920"s he established most of the current knowledge that we have about ancient egypt. Found many mastaba tomb complexes here: abydos 2900 bc. Ex king djer = 318 bc burials in complex sacrificed to be buried with him at the same time to take care of him. Another example of a semi-divine status of the kings and the demand they placed on the people around them to be buried with them in the afterlife. Signs of trauma of the other bodies showing they were sacrificed. Kings were interested in establishing their authority of their country but also their court to demand something like this out of their people: masaba tomb reconstruction. Tombs covered with a rood = some with elaborate exterior decoration ex.
