Engl2p53: ingrid de kok a room full of questions. De kok: art carries a great responsibility for keeping the dialogue with the past open. In the specific context of post -apartheid south africa, art has a role to play by tapping into the energies, instabilities and uncertainties to which the trc process has given rise. The wish to mobilise art as a way to foster healing and social cohesion is, de kok acknowledges, extremely powerful in the aftermath of a shatteringly violent history. However, de kok insists that the role of art is not to resolve the turbulence. Many programs and services place to work towards healing and social cohesion (government services and policies, ngo work, therapy, new constitution and laws, community initiatives, etc. ) Political change is not the same as social transformation. The title is an important place ot start. The poems invite readers into a room full of questions; they do not provide information or answers or resolution.
