Written around 1601 along with hamlet and troilus and cressida. Many critics consider mnd to be shakespeare"s deinitive example of festive. They were written at the end of queen elizabeth"s reign comedy, the play in which he deined the genre of festive comedy. Critics view twelfth night as the masterpiece of festive comedy. The presence of anti festive igures in festive comedies is not uncommon. Festive comedy concludes with a harmonious balancing of anti-festive igures and festive igures: this is not the case in this play. Can be considered perennial aspects of human life. If folly is a trans historical constant of human existence, the ways in which its conceptualized and treated are not. Madness is not dispreading from our society, it has rather been universalized. From the middle of the 17th century, western society made a huge efort to segregate and conine those that are mad.
