She was an actress which helped her adopt different speakers. She was the lover of prince george. She met marie antoinette which may have helped in her writing the marie. It may be defensive; she may not want to put her words in a man"s mouth. Seem to only have female speakers in her poems. She has to be cautious because of the backlash. Her poems always have minority or marginal people (maniac girl, negro girl, lower class) problematic people. She puts herself in the position of the minority groups. We don"t know if she knows about the politics of the world but the things she talks about do suggest that she understood what was happening. The structure makes it look easy to read. The bird wants to be free, it knows that it is trapped. Commentary of freedom and being a part of something that is bigger than you.
