Document Summary
Soil loess alternations from eastern europe (romania, above) across northern eurasia. Soils occur when summer monsoon is strongest and winter monsoon is weakest. Soils can be a source of terrestrial biostratigraphy (small mammals, molluscs, pollen) and astronomical tuning vital to marine terrestrial biostratigraphies. Used with magnetostratigraphy, shows good agreement with marine isotope record. Provides principal means of land sea correlation in quaternary. Precession represented by grey marls (maxima) and white-beige- white marls (minima). Mediterranean the grey marls are developed as sapropels. Small semi-enclosed basin, it provides amplified and rapid response to climate change. Mediterranean showing distribution of sapropel deposition during early holocene (last monsoon maximum). Sapropel stratigraphy at vrica, italy, the location of the calabrian stage gssp. A response to summer monsoon conditions driven by orbital forcing. Last maximum around 9. 5-6. 0 ka, sahara much wetter than today, fossil water in aquifers originates from south atlantic! Sapropels form during insolation maxima in the northern hemisphere caused by precession maxima.
