Document Summary

Definition of geophysics: the non-invasive investigation of earth"s subsurface through measuring, analyzing and interpreting physical fields at the surface or in boreholes. Exploration: minerals, oil & gas, regional exploration. Any problem where we need to see at depth. Environmental (ice thickness, water exploration, characterization of aquifers, definition of contamination plumes, etc) Archeology: mapping sedimentary cover or slight variations for hidden structures/cities/artefacts. It all depends on the scale of the problem. Based on this, we adjust the sampling of our readings. We also need to account for size of the area, access, topography, logistics, etc. to decide which technique(s) to apply. Geoarcheology: 3d model from the gpr data, gpr interp, showing cavity top, ultrasonic tomography showing fractures on a marble slab. Environmental: glacier mapping: gpr survey areas, gpr interp, showing snow top (notice vertical scale, 3d model of the glacier. Geothermal: resistivity section (with interp) from mt survey notice the vertical scale!
