Material landscape (human environment) come out of eco, socio. Mental maps, graffiti, distinctive cultural traditions norms and values. Have an impact and influence the sense of self, quality of the area, etc. power relations and domination and exclusions. How does kinds of things dominate the landcape. Object of study social groups v. cultural identities. The visible imprint of human committee (community) and culture on the landscape. The layers of buildings, forms and artifacts sequentially imprinted on the landscape by the activities of various human occupant (p. 216). The meaning of culture a set of shared belief systems, norms and values practice by a particular group of people (p. 216) (1) the people call themselves a culture or (2) other people (including academics) label them a culture. Particular way of life on the set of collective groups. Examine dominant set of values, norms (set of ideas we see out there) Examine how values and norms change over time (culture war)
