Document Summary
Theory: concerned with increase in population population increases faster than food production. Suggesting that there was minimal resources in this world (limited amount of ability to feed people) it can grow, but it grows slowly. Population grows at an exponential rate (i. e. 2, 4, 16, 256) Geometrical growth rate of food (2, 4, 8, 16: not enough food for the amount of people. Positive checks: famine and disease modify the way that a population grows: check population growth. Couldn"t produce enough food to feed a constantly growing population. Poor laws: very expensive poor relief because of overpopulation. Child bearing years was increasing for women more children were being born to families. Better diets able to beat disease + malnutrition in a way that they couldn"t in previous generations. Mortality in 18th century changes: fewer still births, adults tended to live longer (not necessarily true in urban centres such as london) 1800 more people are born in london.
