Slavery had a wide variety of applications and possibilities i. e. someone could be close to the higher ups, whereas other slaves could be working in the barn. Force labour debt, war, subjugation of the people economics are not the only factors. Poor people often sold themselves into work because of debt. Others were taken as prisoners from combat. These people would then become members of the community: they were not bound to be chattel slaves in the early years of slavery in. Often the case with children: indentured servants came to america to start a new life, some occasions were indentured servitude was forced impressment: working on ships. Serfdom: took over from slavery in europe. Initially europeans sent their slaves to islands in the western hemisphere and not. Africans : atlantic cultures increased links between european + african cultures. Mid-atlantic passage: middle passage, as more africans arrived, the opinion of them in europe changed.
