Sugar alternatives allow us to control our kcal consumption and limit our intake of added sugars. There are two types of sugar alternatives. Contain 2-4 kcals of energy per gram of sugar. Eg: sucrose, fructose, honey, brown sugar, molasses. Sugar alcohols: which are sugar-free , but not calorie-free . Non-nutritive sugars are considered safe to consume with the accepted daily intake. Acesulfame-k, aspartame, saccharin, sucralose and stevia are some example of non-nutritive sweeteners. The base (starting) structure of lipids, is a fatty acid. They can be classified by their fatty acid chain length, and their level of saturation. The most common fatty acid chain length is about 14-24 carbons long. The amount of hydrogens contained in the fatty acid structure determines its saturation level. If the fatty acid contains the maximum number of hydrogens it can carry, it is considered to be a saturated fatty acid (sfa)
