INTC 1F90 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Acculturation
Document Summary
What is research: it"s the process of answering questions a focused search for answers in the right places. Why do we perform research: context, content, analysis. Thesis vs. research question: a thesis is a claim about something a ypothesis that the author wishes to demonstrate/prove, a research question si a focused question that the researcher wants to answer. Selecting sources therefore requires assessing the degree to which a particular article addresses the question that you"re investigating. Your research question should arise out of interest in the topic that you"re addressing (i. e cell phone hazards). First model: research as proof : predetermined thesis (eg. cell phones damage human health) Culture shock can be described as the stressful transition transitional period when individuals move from a familiar environment into an unfamiliar one . Acculturation (like globalization) is a process of cultural and psychological change that is set in motion by intercultural contact.
