Past oriented cultures view the past as their time of great achievement. Present oriented cultures value the time they are in as more important than any other. Future oriented cultures value achievement over anything else and spend a great deal of energy preparing got an uncertain future. In north america, there is a tendency toward multitasking. Some psychologists propose that touch is necessary for proper development and for the formation of intimate relationships. In individualistic cultures, same sex touching tends to be considered taboo. Depending on the culture, personal displays of affection may or may not be accepted- where one has privacy (control of space), affectionate touching tends to be less accepted in public. There tends to be a greater degree of affectionate touching in more southern regions! In decreasing other of frequency in one study: Greece, spain, italy, hungary, germany, belgium, england, austria, the netherlands. The space surrounding us is relatively inflexible and intrusions invoke a significant response.
