Lecture 16- the changing world of work: poverty, unemployment & the end of (paid) Mcjobs and proliferation of low-wage service sector work (cashier jobs etc) Gender roles: dual-earner families and care crisis. In the global north, labour unrest in decline (less likely to make demands of govnt, strike etc. ) Migration: urban to rural, global south to global north. Growth of informal work not in main stream economy (grey economy) New working class, new labour struggles see capitalism globalize, also see workers. Proletarianization: from subsistence farming and small farms to a new working class coming together and organizing (workers fighting for better lives has gone global) What are the two primary explanations for the declining prospects of young workers? youth don"t have the skills with the work being created with technology. Predictions of a jobless future since the 1930"s (what"s driving these changes) exam. We are not seeing the end of paid work, seeing an end to good work .
