Work is productive human activity (stanford) : paid work or wage labour , unpaid work e. g. unpaid care work: volunteer work , unfree labour. Work is central to people"s society and economic well being! We must survive and we require the basic material needs of life! Source of income to purchase variety of goods and services beyond basic needs (stanford 19) ! Paid work can pave the way for broader social and economic advancement or social mobility !
