Not just anyone could join at this time. Won second most seats in house of commons in 1921 and represented farmer"s interests. Previous to this we had a two party system in canada. Argue that politics in canada was dominated by big business and this undermined democracy. Policies favoured industrial sector and free trade policies. Western based political movement (seen as) but moved to ontario in 1921 when received second most seats in the house of commons. First woman elected into house of commons (1921) Many former members joined to create ginger group. Former manitoba premier, john bracken, joined conservative and created progressive. This all underlines significance of famer interest in ccf. Did not have active union participation in ccf. Wanted to speak for workers but no strong tie to labour movement. Influenced by british labour party not russian revolution. Interested in labour issues and attracted to ccf. Pushed out of churches for being too radical.
