MATH 1F92 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Null Hypothesis, Type I And Type Ii Errors, Simple Random Sample
Document Summary
Now that we have an idea about the goal of hypothesis testing, we can now try them. Goal of hypothesis testing: to be able to test a claim about a parameter using sample data. Two very important notes: the number of steps for hypothesis testing usually varies from person to person. Our steps will be slightl(cid:455) different than the te(cid:454)t(cid:271)ook"s steps: no matter what parameter we are measuring, the steps will always be the same. The only things that change are the parameters (and thus, the test statistic and critical value). We will go into detail about each of these steps for each specific parameter we are measuring. Ensure the following: the sample is obtained by simple random sampling or the data result from a randomized experiment, 0(cid:4666)(cid:883) 0(cid:4667) (cid:883)(cid:882) (cid:2777):=0 (cid:2778): 0 the sampled values are independent of each other (n < 0. 05n) They can be structured in one of three ways:
