Document Summary

Performance improves over a period of time(performance curve) Performance is more stable: can deal with internal and external perturbations. Negatively accelerating: reflects the power law of practice, whenn learning a new skill there tends to be a large initial improvement in perormance. At first it takes you longer to show improvement, then suddenly you start to quickly improve. S-shaped: at first you take longer to improve, then you rapidly improve followed by plateau. Changes in these variables may influence your performance and not allow you to see if learning occurs. Retention tests: test of a practiced skill performed following an interval of time(at least 1 day but sometimes weeks) after practice has ceased. Feedback or guidance received during practice is not available in retention tests. Arbitarily defined level of performance or level of original learning. # of trials the learner completes after the criterion of mastery has been achieved ( can promote greater retention.
