-health promotion focuses on achieving equity in health, equal opportunities and resources

-all men in Canada live 7 years longer than 1st nations men
-women live 6 years longer than men but are more likely to experience long-term
limitations and illness
-northern communities have the highest rates of smoking, suicide, drinking and obesity

-economic capital (money, time, wealth)
-cultural capital (knowledge, education, family, history) types of capitals
-social capital (social networks, connections, institutions)
-access to various types of capital put different societal groups at different levels of ‘risk’ for
health issues
