But sports is more than a grand festival every four years it is- or rather it should and can be- Opportunity is different between the classes: gov. focus on elite athletes. Meritocracy: a ranking and reward system in which a person s demonstrated performance determines where they will be situation in the hierarchy. Two equalities are needed for a genuine meritocracy. Equality of opportunity: the chance to take part must be equally available to everyone (gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, geography) Equality of condition: every person taking part does so under the same conditions (rules, facilities, coaching (similar types), doping) Keynesian economic policies: encourage gov. provision of social services (ex. unemployment insurance, old age pensions) Gov. should spend more on social well-being.
