State"s function is to protect and reproduce. Influence of public opinion, control of the media, input on the educational system (texas and teaching about slavery) The possession of and use of power is not always visible/understood. Conceal who"s interest is really being put forward. Relies too heavily on considerations of economic power. Does not consider other sources or motivations f political power. Too little consideration of ability of the non-capitalist class to influence policy. Underestimates the ability of non-capitalist to critically think or be self-determining. If we have the power to rise up against government we have the power to influence them. Openly supporting one class state will lose legitimacy and support. Coercion state has monopoly over use of force used when legitimation fails. Capitalism will naturally drive us into these. Government should play an active role in managing the economy. Must hire more and more people to keep up with the rise of demand: stop buying stuff.
