Aristotle says this isn"t a good system: plato splits city into 2 factions that will conflict. No way to be unified: plato"s guardians can"t be good citizens because they will own no property they won"t have anything of their own to give. These people are supposed to be best of best. Because they don"t have anything of their own they can"t be virtuous. Need to own something of your own to learn to care for something and become virtuous: also, that which is held in common is least-cared for. No one takes care of sidewalk because it is common property. Something of your own you will take care of. Everything is better when we have something of our own to take care of. Rough equality is a good thing, for citizens of equal status, but it isn"t the most important thing.
