She uses the example of socrates and plato, as they refused to take money for challenging thoughts or teaching. Socrates and plato argued that engaging in some labour is valuable in itself. Meaningful discussion or teaching is so valuable to human beings the when you put a price on it diminishes and stigmatizes the activity, causing it to lose its value.
