Not doing anything to cause reaction to happen. Operant conditioning (called instrumental conditioning in the text) If you want something to happen, you make it happen. One of the founders o psychology- wrote the first textbook about psych. Wanted to be an artist- father didn"t want him too. First law of learning- resembles skinner"s law a bit. The association between that stimulus and response is going to strengthen (cat will hit lever more: if a response leads to an unsatisfying event, the response will get weakened. Focused on the stimulus-response (while skinner focused on the outcome) Discrete- trial procedure: running speed, latency- how fast does the rat get out of the box initially. Might just chill out in the maze for a little bit. How fast does it start running: types of mazes. T-maze- introduces a choice- run down right or left side. Radial arm maze- 8, 12 arms- put the rat in the middle.
