We often discuss evolutionary theories and ideas as though organisms consciously choose to behave in certain ways or develop certain strategies. People don"t see a flood and think that they better procreate the keep the species alive, it often happens unconsciously. Issues in evolution: evolutionary change, speciation sexual reproduction, parental investment, sexual selection, aging/senescene, altrusim. Note natural vs. sexual selection (inter- & intra-) Inter- competition btw sexes for sexual access. Intra- compete with members of the same sex for access to other sex. Can treat sexual as case of natural. The sex that provides more parental care if the choosy sex, they get to choose which mate they will procreate with. Sex that provides less parental care is the one that competes for the mating opportunity. Sexual selection: the sex that provides more parental care becomes resource for which other sex competes.
