PSYC 4P56 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Protective Factor
Document Summary
In the studies by holmboe et al. (2011) and tucker-drob and harden (2011), the researchers further examined how certain inherited genes can influence with the environment in order for certain behaviours to be expressed or not expressed. I think this research is a nice transition further into the discussion about gene-environment interactions because each study takes a similar yet different perspective on the interaction. Holmboe et al. (2011) showed that negative affect behaviours can be the result of having low expressing genotypes while being exposed to adverse life events or stresses caused by living in a low ses. These results emphasize the strong influence that the environment has on subsequent behaviour when the appropriate genotypes are present. With this interaction, it may be interesting to examine whether the environment would still be as influential if the genes and environment interacted during non- sensitive periods in the lifespan.
