Learning that takes place within an academic setting, such as a school, which has a planned instructional process and teachers who convey specific knowledge, skills, and thinking processes to students. From the middle ages until the end of world war i, only the sons of the privileged classes could. Middle ages/renaissance & industrial revolution attend european universities. As societies industrialized, the need for formal education of the masses increased significantly. But it was a highly racialized and gendered enterprise. Elites from rome, ancient greece etc. have taught the men of those times persuasion and skills to get and be successful in jobs. Industrial revolution had a huge impact on the work force; it made it necessary to have some education in writing and literacy etc. Elite men had this type of education no one else did. Education therefore became essential for all, in order to keep the economic stability stable for the communities.
