The manipulation of ideas as a more subtle form of control. No regime can rule using force alone. Hegemony of capitalist ideas only works when the working class agrees with them. Social institutions(schools, media, religion) disseminate and legitimate ideas. Come to appear as common sense-taken for granted-become hegemonic. Examples of hegemony: capitalism, gender and sexual hegemony.
