Vanitas paintings often includes objects that have symbolic connotations to death (hourglass, skulls, candles) and objects that reference human pleasures and pursuits (books, jewelry) Images change meanings depending of the viewers and the context they are view in. Text can also change the meaning of an image. Photography through to be closer to mimesis than paintings (myth) Ideology shared systems of beliefs in any given period, culture, or society.
