Looking at topics from the perspective of and anthropologist. *during the colonial period in the 1920s, europeans began to collect african art. *west african man buys art from other africans and then sells it in america. *most common art is african masks and staffs. These are sometimes considered cursed or scary to the resellers; other times they are considered sacred religious images and the resellers feel they should not be disturbed. * african man says, if a muslim is selling wood, a non-muslim must be buying it. Mostly, wood sculptures are sold at markets to tourists. *it is said that if a man is a millionaire, but has no children, he is still considered a nobody. *over time, african art changed from traditional nude sculptures of authentic africans, to african heads on american/european bodies (wearing suits, ties, hats, etc. )
