Document Summary
Laurels: bashing stamens flower opens up (mouse trap) and stamens are tucked away until insect walks on it and it springs up to hit insect and throws pollen on it before it leaves the flower. Bunch berry: little points on balled up flower called hair trigger. When hit the stamen pops out and throws pollen on the insect. Fastest known moving flower part in the world. Twayblades: open as males with a canon with pollen ready to fire. After it fires the flower becomes functionally female to avoid self-pollination (older flowers at bottom and female) Helleborine: only flower that uses wound hormones to attract wasps to pollinate them. Bee and fly orchids: plant has little hairs and simulates a female bug (smell and feels) that gives sex. One flower visible and one that is below the surface. When there are no insects they self pollinate the lower. Spring emphemerals have these and other spring flowers.
