Recall northern water and garter snakes hold eggs internally until they hatch (ovoviviparity). Born are not guarded: other females guard their eggs, ex. Female skinks lay their eggs, usually under a flat rock, and guard them until they hatch: ex. Female red-backed salamanders guard eggs after they lay them in moist, rotting logs: ex. Female wolf spiders carry their eggs around until they hatch. They carry the eggs around in an egg sac that they weave around the eggs and then the egg sac is held by the spinnerettes. When the eggs hatch, the babies are carried on the mother"s back: ex. Female nursery web spiders carry their egg sac in their jaws (mouth parts) until just before the eggs are ready to hatch. They take the sac and build a nursery web and guard the sac.
