Lichens: xanthoria calcium present, what else do signs tell you, diet = fish, long-term occupancy. Biodiversity higher here than other parts of boreal forest. Due to colder conditions, subarctic flora grows along superior"s north shore & on islands. Plants that like basic ph grow on these islands why: some volcanic rocks, such as basalt = basic in ph. Ontario goldenrod mainly grows on basalt islands: basalt islands = 1 reason biodiversity is greater here than in 1 northern boreal. Diabase sills in sutton ridges contain calcium. Least chipmunk eats seeds of american dune grass. Other unusual plants found along north shore of lake superior. Pitcher"s thistle found on only few shores of great lakes. Endemic localized, not found anywhere else (e. g. the great lakes in ontario)
