Document Summary
Cgsc 1001 learning, memory, and representation: cognitive systems, the perception changes the environment in the cognitive system action changes the environment. They are all perceiving and acting through the environment: cognition is a manipulation of representations such as numbers, memory. These representations are then stored in memory: we can describe memory with different levels. Animals use the brain: sensory memory: like a scratch pad for vision, or a recording tape for hearing that can be over written. It is overwritten every few seconds when we perceive something new. Some of these become long term memory: short-term memory: stored memories for long periods of time, possibly forever but can be difficult to retrieve, working memory by baddeley. The short term or working memory can only store about 7 chunks of information at a time. There may be separate working memories for audition and vision.
