COMM 2000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Nvivo, Codebook, Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software
Document Summary
So today, we are doing the second half of the content analysis lecture. We will start with some ideas of coding. Goal is to reduce the material define the material (unit of analysis, sample) determine the context techniques to define the direction of the material summary explicative structuring. So now, we are actually going to try coding our material and see what exactly we are coding. So once you have defined the text, what specifically is the unit of analysis. So for example, if you are looking at newspapers, what specifically are you looking at (headlines, advertisements, subheadings etc. ) and often you forget that you have a question that you are actually trying to answer. So sometimes you end up with a whole bunch of codes that aren"t speaking to you or telling a story. So we need to develop a strategy to understand that text.
