Think about one of the simplest aspects of mediated communication, ability for sounds and images and words to travel independently of the physical message. Adorno and horkheimer thought about these processes in negative terms, mass culture used to keep people in their place. What looks like diversity and variety is just mass produced variety, happy endings in movies are a perfect example. Never challenges to make you think, cause if it really pushed you, you would see how brutal and unfair capitalism is.
