E. g. our experience in university is highly mediated by time. Face to face communication is also mediated. Your face can be seen as a medium of expression. The connection is mediated by space, time. Social media has to do with the nature of mediation. Instagram intervenes and creates an abstraction of me as a brand. Gives you the freedom to express yourself in a certain way. Media creates a space for people to appear. Media has the capacity to manipulate the grounds for distance, changed what we know as proper distance . A space for judging, a moral environment. A metaphor for globalization, cosmopolitanism, xenophobia, etc. Boundaries between private and public, good and bad, local and national, etc. They do this through their ability to represent, to manipulate distance, to make things, others appear to us, etc. Media literally creates a space, a frame to make people appear a certain way.
