FILM 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Diegesis, Y Tu Mamá También, Classical Hollywood Cinema
Document Summary
Classical hollywood techniques were shown that they were made to manipulate the spectator. Lms like those of godard, and many younger lmmakers he has in uences, are self. Re exive as they re ect on the techniques that they use to construct their own narratives. Unlike classical lms that wanted to make their cinematic techniques invisible from the audience, the post-classical lms exposed the techniques that they used in making their lms. We generally talk about the emergence of post-classical in the 1960"s. In this time, typical hollywood techniques were being questioned. Although this happened mostly in the 60"s, it did happen in lms like rashomon, which was made in the 50"s. It is correct to think of it as something more common after the 60"s, but it is not something that is clear cut in lm history. Godard had a lot of in uence on other lmmakers.
