Document Summary

Horror 3: is this horror: exam in short answer questions. Can answer in point form and give examples. Robin wood: talks about how horror films articulate impulses that are considered taboo, they are repressed in our culture. He talks about the difference between oppression and repression: oppression is a negative outcome that is experienced by people targeted by the arbitrary and cruel exercise of power in a society or social group. It is used to describe how a certain group is being kept down by unjust use of force, authority or societal norms. The only way to do this is mentally, putting things away in the back of your mind. Everything that we repress does not disappear: when there is repression, there is always a return of that repression. Filmmakers do this in the form of a monster. Society has a fear of physicality and of sexuality. The monster shows how the society is actually constructed.
