The documentary aims to preserve on impulse (genocide = part of history) Documentary always comes after the act of genocide. Genocides are massive historical events that need to be remembered. The documentary employs a certain pedagogic impulse (wants to make a lesson out of history). Don"t let something like the holocaust happen again: never again syndrome, a lot of effort was put into the education of humanity about the holocaust to prevent a repeat (yet genocides still occur). Documentary is a kind of confession of impotence because it comes after the fact. It was not there during the actual event. What happens in one place can happen in another. Possibility of transferability from one situation into another.
