Document Summary
Meltwater streams also deposit sediment alongside & underneath the glacial ice. Glaciers not as common as streams, but do more erosive work. Ice-age glaciers shaped the primary landscape of north america/europe. A scooped out landform common near the head of the glacier where erosion is highest can become very narrow, forming knife-like features known as "ar tes" Where several ar tes meet to form a point is called a "horn" Forms when a u-shaped valley fills with water. Occur due to fast erosion in the main glacier channel versus tributary channels, causing a large vertical difference between the channels once the glacier melt. Narrow ridge of coarse sand and gravel, formed by subglacial meltwater channel. Depressions in the landscape that was covered by ice-sheet. When these depressions fill with water, they are called "kettle lakes" Glacial ice is nearly as dense as seawater, it must be 9/10ths submerged before it can float.
