Document Summary

Models: representation of a real system/object, used for learning about systems/objects, used for forecasting the future, we have only one earth therefore we have no control to experiment on, helpful in finding out about the past. Forecast: what will happen in the future with no conditions; i. e. tomorrow will be cloudy . Prediction: broader statement about what has not yet been discovered under certain circumstances; what"s possible; i. e. precipitation will increase 3% for every 1c of warming . Projection: prediction based on a given scenario; what"s probable; i. e. the global mean temperature will rise by 4- Gcm: general circulation model; only looks at atmosphere. Aogcm: atmosphere-ocean gcm; looks at atmosphere and ocean and how they work together; better at simulating climate. Model dimensions: most climate models are 4d; look at latitude, longitude, and time, can also be 0d: predict state of the entire system; i. e. incoming and outgoing radiation at surface.
