Levels of analysis - four simplified => system( structural,global ) => state ( nation, country) => sub-state ( organizational, societal) => individual. Realism: dominant theory , deep historical roots ( hobbes , waltz etc) Statism => sovereign states the main actor, other actors (corporations etc)at best have minor roles. States a black box domestic politics largely irrelevant in explaining state actions on world stage ( canada has same objectives despite the government in charge )
