HIST 1001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Radical Reformation, Consubstantiation, Transubstantiation
Document Summary
Luther replaced the thought that the gift of god can not be given from anybody but god, not even the church. The priesthood of all believers all members of the christian church are belonged to the group, no one has a sacred status all are equal. Sacred sacrality the notion that the priest has some special power with god challenged the thought of priesthood of all believers. Without political backing luther would have never made it. In the summer of 1518 luther was summoned and accused of heresy. Luther puts out a number of pamphlets calling for princes to start a top- down reform in their jurisdictions. Luther offered the new thought of hymns, the congregation being allowed to sing in the church. Reformation had very strong support in the community. The substantiations are just celebratory and ritual. The peasant"s war of 1525 was sparked by a more radical interpretation of the reformation message.
