The fall of the roman empire had resulted in tribal societies developing, in italy cities developed into city states. 13th century, italian ports developed into city states, but were powerless to the kingdoms to the north (france, austria, etc), were invaded in the 15th century. Partitioned by these powers until the 19th century. Christopher columbus was an italian, so was john cabot. Many basic facts yet to be discovered about these people, buried in archives. Alwyn ruddock died in 2006 after career of 4 decades doing research in italian archives for italian exploration. When she died, demanded her research was destroyed. Rumoured she had made some revolutionary discoveries about john cabot. All of her research notes were gone, hadn"t published anything. Claimed cabot"s voyages weren"t funded by england"s king, but instead had been funded by the pope and taxpayers.
